Female German teacher, 41, at $16,500-a-year private school ‘booked a cottage where she planned to have sex with a male student she was grooming’

  • A former Adelaide private school teacher who groomed one of her male students had booked a cottage where she intended to have sex with him, a court has heard. 
    In sentencing submissions on Monday, the South Australian District Court heard the grooming by Bettina Schmoock could not be considered 'mere fantasy', though no sexual activity ever took place. 
    'She took steps to act on that by booking a cottage where the sex was to occur,' prosecutor Mark Norman said, as Schmoock shook her head and looked down.

    Bettina Schmoock earlier pleaded guilty to one aggravated count of communicating with the intent of procuring a child for sexual activity
    'She persisted in encouraging the complainant to join her in the cottage, even when the messages showed he indicated his unwillingness.' 
    In a victim impact statement read to the court, the boy - in the courtroom with his family - said his contact with Schmoock was initially comforting and described her as his best friend. 
    'I always remained anonymous because Bettina said she would kill herself if she was discovered and she lost her job,' he in his victim impact state, the Adelaide Advertiser reported.

    2 years after quake, Kumamoto looks to future The Yomiuri Shimbun KUMAMOTO — Saturday marked the second anniversary of the Kumamoto Earthquake foreshock, which was followed by the main shock two days later.
